PETROLATUM, PARAFFIN, AND TOLUENE

What are they and what is their function?
Petrolatum is one of petrol derivatives, formed by removing the paraffin from heavy oils, being commercialized as vaseline, mineral oil or liquid paraffin. These substances form a film, creating a barrier that interferes in the evaporation of the skin’s natural humidity, and against microorganisms that may cause infections. Toluene is an organic solvent derived from petrol., usually found in nail polish. This is a highly toxic substance for the immune system, potentially causing birth disorders, neurologic disturbances, and hearing impairment.

Why not use it?
The concerns regarding these ingredients are mainly due to the impacts to the environment, with negative consequences for the ecosystems and human activities.
